Solaris
This is my second Tarkovsky film, and my god is he an incredible director. Solaris is a very somber and slow-paced film; and there are an array of different themes and concepts explored, such as grief, the perspective of love, and what it means to be a human. I'm typically not a big fan of any films love-related, because they always end up being cheesy and make me feel lonely, however, Solaris is not that.Solaris is a very philosophical film in its dialogue, with the characters (more specifically Kris' late wife) constantly questioning what really makes a human a human, what gives us our worth and distinction, and even how perspective can change our view on "love". It's a very slow paced and methodical take on everything I've discussed, but I think that's what really makes Tarkovsky as a director, he gives us that extra time to sit, and wonder, and to speculate on what may happen next.
"When man is happy, the meaning of life and other eternal themes rarely interest him."
I wanted to end the review with this quote because I think it was what spoke to me most on a personal and philosophical level. Sometimes I feel as though we as a society get so caught up in our experience, and daily life, that we tend to forget we live in an ever-expanding, infinite void of confusion.
