The Master
What an absolutely phenomenal, and incredibly sad journey of a film. The Master is a film about Freddie Quell, despite the name of the film lol. Freddie Quell is a veteran with ptsd, childhood trauma, alcoholism, and never had his parents growing up, in fact he was raped (statutory) by his foster mom who was his aunt. The Master is the journey of Freddie and his endeavors post-war, and how he handles his issues, or doesn't. We see as he goes from job to job, and we see how prone he is to lashing out, that is until one night Freddie stumbles onto a yacht, incredibly intoxicated, looking for work. The next morning, he finds himself woken up and brought to the master, who after a few conversations, takes a liking to Freddie. After some time, we begin to learn more about this group and organization that "The Master" runs, and the obvious logical connection I would say most people would make is to scientology, which I'd say is fairly accurate. However, I'm going to stop the specifics there, because I don't want to spoil it too much. What I will say however, is that this movie was crafted meticulously with an immense amount of detail, and that I think both the cinematography and acting within this film are among the best I've ever seen (specifically PSH and Joaquin for the acting).Overall, I don't think this is a film for everyone (prob my parents lmfao), but if you're into film even in the slightest, this is a literal must watch.Only my second PTA film and he's already one of my favorites...Rip-Philip Seymour Hoffman
