Yi Yi
I really wanted to wait and sit on this movie before I reviewed it, I typically just go and review a movie right after I finish it, but for the foreseeable future I want to just sit and think about these kinds of movies for at least a day or two before I actually sit down and review them.
Yi Yi is quite literally, a film about everything, it's about love, purpose, life and death, a film about the good, the bad, and everything in between. Yi Yi is at its purest, and mostly simply put, a movie about Existence.
I could rave on and on about all the hidden details, the allegories, and the plot itself, but instead I want to focus on one of the central themes that happened to really connect with me. At first, I didn't really understand what they were trying to say with all of the behind the head pictures ying ying was taking, I mean I initially assumed it was just meant to be a metaphor for how we only really get half of people's story, like you only ever really "one side" of a person. Since I've sat and thought about it though, I think I can recognize that it was not only meant to be that metaphor, but it was also meant in the most literal sense it could have been, it's the beauty of curiosity, the root of humanity itself.
I fucking loved this movie, thanks for convincing me to watch this: Cinema in Review
