Barry Lyndon
97/100
At the doors of the French Revolution, nobility is at its peak: but Barry Lyndon is not a nobleman, even though he fights so hard to become one once he reaches the luxury of the position he fails miserably in holding it. Barry Lyndon is such a complex character, a loser who tries so hard to be a winner but fails every single time, he is no hero and we can't relate to him not only because of the historical setting but also because of the direction which is cold, detached and objective, leaving no room for empathy. The cinematography is one of the best one I've ever seen and so is the score, perfectly haunting.
