Babylon
this movie is chaotic, wild and life changing. Damien Chazelle can't just not drop another masterpiece out of nowhere.
these were the 3 fastest hours of my entire life. the characters???? the cinematography????? the performances???? THE SCORE ?????? the directing??? THE ENDING WTF????
the singin' in the rain references were so fun, but once manny walked into that movie theater and i heard “all i do is dream of you the whole night through” that was it. i broke down.
as i heard some people say, this is “a love letter to movies and hate mail to hollywood” and nothing can describe it better. i felt part of the conversation in the first act when nellie and manny were talking about why they’d be at a movie set at that second if they could, and i’ll be thinking about THAT monologue for months. that’s absolutely right. what goes to a movie theater screen remains immortal forever, but all that behind the scenes shit will fade with time, and we can still watch all of those movies from decades ago and connect with people who had their last breath before we had our first
i honestly can't find a single reason for all the shade people have been throwing at this, which is so upsetting because people don’t want to watch it because of them!!!!!!!!! go make up your own minds!!!!!!!!!! the movie came out a week ago in my country and there were maybe 10 people in the theater with me. one of the smallest crowds i ever witnessed :( at least me, my aunt, the lady behind us and the two girls in front of us had a lot of fun for sure
