Scream
At the tail end of the 80’s, horror really started to die and it sputtered out in the 90’s and this movie saved the genre. This is by far Wes Craven’s best job purely as a director. Reminiscent of early Carpenter movies, he takes a simple plot and adds his style to it while enhancing every area instead of trying to plunge into something never before seen. Neve Campbell is perfect, probably THE scream queen outside of Jamie Lee Curtis. Hiding the killer in plain sight behind a creepy Skeet Ulrich with the help of an unexpected second killer from a comical Lillard was genius. In what I think is the worst decade for horror, this film stands on the mountain top alone as a true masterpiece.
