TÁR
Somehow Tar managed to keep my eyes glued on the screen for the full 2 hours and 38 minutes- it was simultaneously calm and brimming with tension. I would also like to appreciate how the movie achieved climatic moments without a long cut of music being played. I expected to see extensive scenes of Tar in her full glory, exuding her renounced musical talents. Instead I got extensive interviews, and conversations, quiet, small moments of day to day life. These moments were chosen in a manner that felt natural, moved the plot along gracefully, and truly made Lydia Tar and her egotistic, messy persona fully come to life.
I think it was the dialogue, Cate’s acting, comedic elements, and the ambiguity that made it all possible for this long movie, with little to not plot, to be able to captivate my attention. My mind was working 24/7 trying to find out the mystery. I guess it’s as Tar said, “It is always the question that involves the listener, it's never the answer.”
