Spider-Man 2
This is STILL the best Spider-Man film. It focuses more on the man than the hero, and it pays off so well. Now facing the stress of managing his real and hero life, Peter finds himself in a bind, which (of course) causes conflicts on all fronts. His relationship with MJ gets more strained, his best friend falls into an obsession over Spider-Man, he dislikes the Bugle for painting Spidey a menace and is now struggling to make ends meet. This eventually affects his other life as Spider-Man because he is now facing web-tile dysfunction. Throw a lil Doc Ock in there and Peter’s life is shambles.
But of course, you already know this, you’ve most likely seen the movie.
This movie adds a whole other layer of depth to Peter, as he figures out who he is and who he needs to be. The plot is so tightly put together that any faults found can be forgiven. (At least for me.) Alfred Molina’s performance as Otto Octavius was brilliant and really on the level with Defoe’s Norman Osborne. And how could I forget J.K. Simmons as J.J.? The man was born to play the role and I’m happy he’s still playing him in the MCU. Kirsten Dunst as MJ, James Franco as Harry, the whole cast shines. And of course, props to Sam Raimi, the man directed the HELL out of this one. Truly some of his finest work.
It’s no wonder why comic book fans still hold this film in high regard. Not only is this still the best Spider-Man film but it is one of the best superhero films PERIOD.
