Ohhh I loved this.
When I tell you the scene where Thana tries to remove her shirt and she imagines a hand reaching for her chest absolutely scared the shit out of me oml. I really appreciated that scene in particular because it really speaks to how it feels after you, your body, has been taken advantage of. You can still feel that persons hands on you, that persons presence in the room.
Now- I do understand the fact that this movie was directed by a man (who even played one of the r@pists.. gross) and the SA scenes happen very early on in the movie … those pieces of information on their own could be a huge turn off for a lot of people and I can completely understand why. While obviously, I don’t love those facts surrounding this film, I still really loved this.
As someone who is constantly reminded of how quiet I am Thana being a mute woman who is still able to exude this extreme sense of confidence had me in awe. If you know anything about me, you would know my extreme love for catholic IMAGERY (not the religious stuff), and I have a particular love for nuns so watching Thana shooting at people while wearing this amazing nun costume truly felt like a religious experience. Also… why were movies made pre-1996 so satisfying when it comes to the sounds? The crisp sounds of paper bags, the clacking of heels against the sidewalk, the clicks of a key opening a door … I need really need vintage asmr istg
There is so much more I could say but I will end it off with this:
fuck. Her. Neighbor.
