the true nightmare that is the erasure of the female autonomy. at the hands of men, women become projections, replacements, and fantasies to be reconstructed rather than people allowed to exist on their own terms. bear’s “nice guy” act was all a facade. he’s the true villain underneath it all. he’s such a coward, he didn’t want to feel rejected and wanted to feed his own fragile ego and loneliness. he felt he deserved reciprocation. he bypasses consent entirely through the one wish willow, which is catastrophic as nikki is essentially mirroring bear’s own desires and obsessions while losing herself. so glad horror is evolving to be more than just jump scares, gore or emphasis on shock value but finding its terror in the loss of agency, making it far more unsettling than any monster or blood-soaked set piece. it can be thoughtful, emotionally devastating, and genuinely disturbing all at once. pearl walked so nikki could run (backwards).
