Melancholia
I am too spellbound to write anything about this film. Is it possible to truly describe an otherworldly experience?
Time changes. People are shaped, guided, haunted by their past. That much is true. Lav Diaz's 'Melancholia' is an 8-hour meditation on time, memory, pain, introspection, and metamorphosis. The long takes were grippingly enchanting, letting you savour every bit of the frame. Diaz shoots these scenes with so much substance and passion that you let yourself get lost in poetry. Until you find something or it finds you. The film is an introspective trance. A haunting poetry, crafted with erudition. You consume some movies, and some films consume you.
"Why is there so much madness and too much sorrow in this world? Is happiness just a concept? Is living just a process to measure man's pain? Are we ever going to see each other again? I'm not afraid of death. I'm more afraid that I won't see you again."
