Ryan Coogler free from the shackles of that company, and he makes a masterpiece MAN. Some of the best uses of IMAX I’ve ever seen with those aspect ratio changes seemed to always heighten the scenes it was used on. The scene in the middle of the film that displays the past and future generations of black music is so joyful and free (my favorite in the film), but it also ends with the three white vampires wanting to take part and take over. Coogler is at his best here using the supernatural as a metaphor for how not only black bodies are preyed upon, but also our music and art. Some fantastic acting and an even better score, a true original masterpiece from one of our best directors going.
