Sinners
stunning
the story of tommy johnson who sold his soul to the devil for his gift??? BUT NAH SAMMIE MOORE DIDNT SELL SHIT. he escaped the devil that night.
every scene with grace. WOW. how she passes from the white to the black side. as does lisa. but we never see bo on the white side? she’s dressed as rosie the riveter, WOMEN OF COLOR WERE IN THE WORKFORCE WELL BEFORE WHITE WOMEN “GOT TO.” wow.
delta slim, oh delroy lindo, OH DELROY LINDO.
his gift. he has the same gift that sammie does. his music, his storytelling. the way the audio bleeds through, pierces the veil, when he is telling the story of rice. oh my god. so stunning. how he plays at the same pass at the train station, does he do it to pierce the veil and connect with rice once again? makes his sacrifice for sammie all the more meaningful. he saw himself in sammie. he saw hope and light in sammie. WOW.
SAMMIE.
the immediate comparisons to sammie’s father and remmick, to show us the parallels. how the oppressed, the abused, the victims of the system so quickly become the oppressors. the people holding up the system that has injured them and held them down. sammies dad preaching a religion that was historically used to minimize and oppress black people. to justify racism and slavery. yet he upholds it, he preaches it. he wants to use sammie’s gift to benefit the cause. THE SAME WAY REMMICK DOES. how they are the villains of the story and yet they are the victims!!! WOW. JUST WOW. remmick had everything stolen from him too.
jesus christ this film is SUPERB
AND I HAVENT EVEN MENTIONED THE SMOKESTACK TWINS. i could cry.
even the first scene we see of them. stack rolling up the cigarette, and smoke lighting it up. seamlessly passing it back and forth. idk. there is so much symbolism in the twins and everything they do. just WOW.
