Almost Famous
“This is the circus, everybody’s trying not to go home, nobody’s saying goodbye…
Quit looking at me like that”
This film connects both a very emotionally complex script with deep and powerful characters who feel real to watch interact with one another. In the quote above William has just watched Russel allow his manager trade the girl he is in love with for a pack of beer and Russel is defending his actions. This quote shows just how well this script allows it’s characters to develop and flourish, each character connects to the situations they are in differently, Russel had never been questioned on his actions with the groupies because everyone was doing the same thing, but when William comes in to the tour, his innocence feels like a check on what actually was going on with the band members at this time, but his own opinions of the time are tainted by his love for Penny and his love for rock and roll. William feels torn between both his awe at these people like Russel who are dark, mysterious but his shock at how they conduct themselves.
This is an utterly entertaining film from start to finish, with one of the best soundtracks ever and an amazing script. Although as good as the characters are sometimes the acting feels a little disjointed especially Williams character. I will however always love this film for its charm and honestly a plot that is one of the best I’ve seen.
