Conclave
19 years of Catholic guilt primed me to enjoy this movie. its exploration of faith, doubt, power and the role of religion in society reminded me of all the reasons why i loved studying religion in vce, even if it all made me more confident in my rejection of Catholicism. i will never not eat up religious imagery or the questioning of institutionalised religion and the Church.
also felt the need to add that my uncle is a priest who always has the most tea to spill about other priests. so ive learned there is literally no way on earth to put humans together in a group and not have drama.
and so the “corruption” that was almost comparable to the plot of a teenage coming-of-age movie with power grabs and gossiping and the rise of an underdog was realistic methinks 😭 (although the ending didn’t really feel right, i’ll forgive it)
100% rewatching this in a cinema again, maybe twice. and i just know i’ll have way too much to say with each watch as i learn what words i need to put together to express how this film made me feel 🤧🤧
