Arrival
This film managed to blow me away more than any film ever has (atleast for now). With a premise as simple as this, you can have tons of expectations with how the story will move but this is beyond everything. The god tier visuals and otherworldly score itself makes this a great watch but what matters more is how this film dives deep into your mind despite having an "alien invasion" plot.
Unlike any other alien invasion film, this just isn't about any alien human war or some war of the worlds type beat, but it's about communication- one of the most basic human need for survival.
The "Villeneuve" (director) theme, which according to me is the characters or rather the protagonist always searching for something, the one thing that has now become the character's only motto in life is on top of it's game in this film.
Louise's dedication to communicate with Aliens and try and understand them leads her to painful and shocking revelations, I won't dwell into spoilers but the way the scenes in which Louise and her daughter are shown still makes me scratch my head for days ( positively ). The use of time is genius, which again made me question how the sci-fi genre can be so thought provoking ( like 2001:ASO) and devastating at the same time.
The acting from everyone is exceptional, Amy Adams ( for the 100th time) was snubbed heavily here. Jeremy Renner showed how he can be truly great.I have never been this moved by a movie's ending and this was my 6th viewing of this film.Denis Villeneuve's filmography is legendary but I still think this is his best work and this is also one of those films for which I'll do anything to get a chance to watch it in cinemas.
P.S.- watching this on tv with lights out and sipping coca-cola hits really well.
