Sinners
i thoroughly enjoyed this movie when I saw it in theaters, but admittedly I thought it was just "a really solid movie." the messages and symbolism didn't really resonate with me on my first viewing. but, after watching it again, I really appreciate and love this movie a lot more. Ryan Coogler's passion and love of filmmaking oozes all over this movie, through the camerawork, cinematography, character work, and the excellent score and soundtrack. all of the technical aspects of this movie are extraordinary, but obviously what stuck out were its characters and themes. a considerable amount of our cast are heavily flawed individuals, but they are all so incredibly human. Stack and Smoke do very morally wrong things, but they still have dreams and aspirations that make them human. they worry about the legacy their father will have on them, and are worried they are just as bad as him. it makes it all the more heartbreaking when Smoke is given the chance to rectify his father's mistakes with his own son, the universe takes it from him. Smoke was probably my favorite character, but this cast is just so profoundly good. all of the performances are excellent and I cannot overstate how much I love these characters. this review is all over the place but its for me not for you. Sinners is just a truly amazing picture, and Ryan Coogler is a true visionary. I'm ashamed it took me this long to see the vision. 10/10
