Eternals
"it's beautiful, isn't it?"
why is earth worth saving? what makes it so special? in the great words of poet charli xcx, why do we love if we're so mistaken? "i've seen them lie and fight and kill, but i've also seen them laugh, love, create and dream" like ajak said. the message that the director expressed at first in her 2021 oscar speech shines bright in this film, "all human beings are born good".
no one could've directed this except chloé zhao, her masterwork in capturing the essence and beauty of human life through the film lens is like no other, and said message blended in the beautiful natural landscapes our home has to offer makes a great connection between the showing and the telling. not to mention how gobsmackingly stunning the visuals are, impeccable.
my only problem with this is the editing, it wasn't on par with zhao's poetry in visuals and sometimes in script. i think there's a fine line between her poetry and the marvel formula, and i wish the editing traveled swiftly through that line, but it ended up falling too much towards the latter.
overall, a great and strong step in the right direction for the future of marvel. this is one of the mcu's most unique projects and after 30+ of those i'm guessing that's a very good thing. it all makes it up to a really cool film.
also, druig in a tank top. important note.
