Avengers: Infinity War
Undoubtedly a top 5 superhero movie of all time, but for me it transcends every other superhero movie in the genre. Thanos is one of the greatest supervillains ever seen on screen second only to heath ledgers Joker in the Dark Knight. The Russo brothers who have proven they’re work across the MCU (winter soldier, Civil War, this movie and Endgame). Arguabally making 4 of the top 10 MCU movies, a feat accomplished by no other directors in the space. I dare say that without the Russo brothers there would be no “golden era” of the MCU, that’s how much of an impact they made. Aight enough glaze for now, let’s get into the movie. It starts off with Thanos having slaughtered half of Asgards people and obtaining the tessarect and the stone within. He’s already collected a stone off screen before the movie takes place. Hulk picks a fight with him and Thanos absolutely claps him and knocks him out. This scene set the stakes super high with Thanos taking out arguabally the two strongest Avengers (aside from doctor strange and Wanda). This was a great opening and really sold Thanos as the big bad and the biggest threat they’ve faced. Hulk warns strange and Wong and they get iron man, known as the leader of the avengers and explain the situation, and they go into some exposition about the infinity stones but in a way that’s helpful not boring. Immediately after, they’re faced with a threat and Tony has an awesome suit as always. It makes sense that Tony has his most advance suit yet against the strongest villain yet and the suits really going to make him a powerhouse in this movie. Spider Man senses the danger and decides to go help and just like that we have our first team dynamic and we get some really good banter between Tony and Peter as well as Tony and doctor strange. Peter received the iron spider outfit which is heavily hated by the media but I actually think it looks good and again, I think it’s important every character is at they’re best so they have a chance against facing Thanos. I also like how this film deals with the repercussions of civil war, in that because they had that fight and dissassembled, they weren’t ready to face Thanos together. The guardians encounter Thor and despite having a whole movie where mjonir breaks and Thor decides he doesn’t need a weapon, Disney has to sell toys so the Russo brothers give him stormbreaker and make Thor an absolute gigachad and he mogs everybody. The guardians also encounter iron man, strange and Peter and they team up after the guardians lose gamora who is sacrificed for Thanos’s greater cause. On earth captain America, Rhodey, Bucky, Black panther, black widow, Wanda, vision and the wakanda army get together to start preparing for the fight they’ll have to face. Side note: one negative about this movie is they did hulk really dirty and the Russos have even admitted they just didn’t know what to do with him, so that’s kind of lame. Moving on, as Thanos collects stones throughout the movie and becomes even more powerful the viewer starts to wonder if the Avengers are going to be able to pull it off. They’ve never lost, but they’ve also never faced a threat this big. This movie while an avengers movie, is still really funny and also has some of the most iconic moments in the MCU. As we move into the third act, Thor gets stormbreaker, thanos’s army starts to move towards wakanda and Thanos has two more stones to collect the viewer gets super excited. Thanos has been absolutely hyped up throughout this movie, and now we’re about to see him vs our avengers. Two absolutely fantastic fight scenes play out, Thanos on titan and the fight at wakanda, both are super interesting and the Russos do a great job at building the three character groups (iron man’s, caps, and thors smaller group)(as well as Thanos when he was with gamora). The titan fight is absolute peak and very entertaining and visually pleasing to watch, as they start to defeat Thanos, even capturing him, but Star Lord absolutely FUMBLES! And because of his stupidity later in the movie half of the universe will die. After Thanos gets set free the real action begins to unfold as strange and Thanos fight and it’s an amazing back and forth between the two as both have supernatural power of sorts. After strange gets whooped, Tony is the last hope and puts up the best fight out of anybody, even making Thanos bleed but is ultimately stabbed. Strange makes a trade, the stone for Tony’s life, which seems fair until you realize Tony was at like 1 hp and thanos could have at least offered him some minis and bandages. Thanks had one stone to go and he absolutely wipes the floor with the whole group on earth, and gets the mind stone with some shenanigans. Thor in all his aura in a last effort attempt, Meets Thanos again, the one who bodied half of his people and slaughtered his brother and he seemingly defeats Thanos, but Thanos like that one kid playing Simon says in class, refuses to sit down, and he taunts Thor and then snaps, achieving his goal, and we see half of the universe slowly disappear. Overall this movie is very great and it’s so entertaining it’s really rewatcheable just because almost every single scene in the movie is entertaining and has something deeper behind it. Costume design is incredible and Thanos is voiced by the goat Josh Brolin, who drops the best quotes we’ve ever heard in the MCU or superhero movies period, this time possibly even surpassing the quotes of Heath Ledgers Joker. Because of this movie being so incredible, I’m really hyped for doomsday but even more so secret wars, because I have faith in the Russo brothers. But I fear they won’t be able to top the peak that is… Avengers Infinity War.
