Shaheed
A quintessential early Pakistani film from Khalil Qaiser.
The film as a whole is a giant middle finger to western imperialism. Going as far as to make the primary antagonist a man named Lawrence, in reference to Lawrence of Arabia which was released in the same year. The film pulls absolutely no punches, and there is no subtlety to anti-imperialist subject matter, which is likely the reason why Khalil Qaiser was killed under mysterious circumstances shortly after the film released.
It's overblown and over the top, exactly as it should be but it isn't doing anything interesting enough to maintain my interest past its well crafted albeit at times silly commentary.
