Poor Things
genuinely spectacular. the idea of a completely new brain developing in a body that has been completely developed is so fascinating, and leaves a lot to think about. and it got me thinking about how as bella cannot remember her previous life as her brain is new, the body carries and remembers things. bella is one of the most interesting and complex characters i have ever witnessed in film. what a fucking character. and emma stone plays her absolutely brilliantly, a truly undeniable talent. this movie about life, the human experience and what it means to be alive in general & is such a wonderful ride. it leaves you with so so many questions about the human existence and what the life of bella baxter could be. i love so so much about this movie, the performances, the design, the soundtrack, the characters, the complexity, the concept and almost everything. while it does have its flaws, (like at moments it is glaringly obvious that a man directed this, and the amount of grotesque sex scenes of bella getting taken advantage of) i do not see this as a pedobait movie as many are calling it. it directly calls out the men in the movie and the way men see women and the innocence bella carries, as well as the ideas men hold about the power they think they deserve. and it is so easy to see it is not glorifying what happens to bella. it was so interesting how the men found her more appealing when she had the brain of the child, and were increasingly intimidated by her the more she matured. i love love love bella baxter, i love how emma stone portrayed her, and i think she is a genuinely spectacular character. also mark ruffalo was so fun to hate in this. there is so much you can say about this movie, and im sure all of it has been said before. it leaves you with so many questions and so much more ideas about the human condition and the society we live in. i will continue to think about this forever, it is definitely staying with me!
