Daisies
for the past hour i've been reading a lot about this movie and the intentions and context behind it. the more i learn about it the less i think "its a fun silly film about two girls terrorizing men". i was trying to write something about this but i'm sick so my brain is kinda fried. basically, what i wanted to express is how i thought after rewatching this movie i would feel better about life but instead i'm left sad and hopeless. no matter what your purpose is, everything has a balance and trying to break it will probably make things worse. "there's only one way they could end up; is there any way to mend what's been destroyed?"
i really love this one thing that věra chytilová said about the movie, and honestly i think it sums up my thoughts perfectly:
"Daisies" was a morality play showing how evil does not necessarily manifest itself in an orgy of destruction caused by the war, that its roots may lie concealed in the malicious acts of everyday life. I chose as my heroines two young girls because it is at this age that one most wants to fulfil oneself and, if left to one’s own devices, his or her need to create can easily turn into its very opposite.
