Gone with the Wind
"She is the only dream I ever had that lived and breathed and did not die in the face of reality"

As you can imagine, I'm conflicted. On one hand, the movie revels in trying to paint a romantic, victimized portrait of the confederacy and the old south. On the other, it knew exactly - EXACTLY all the super specific things that make me love a movie and used them against me.
It has a beautiful, sweeping score, incredible early-technicolor cinematography, an epic 3+ hour runtime, good pacing, was an important part of film history, had really good dialogue, AND a historical setting that I just so happened to be reading about? The critic in me didn't stand a chance.
To make matters worse, the nearly 4 hour runtime didn't feel very long at all this time around. But if you're interested in a non-problematic alternative to watch that has everything I just listed above and more, please check out Lawrence of Arabia pronto. I'm looking at you, Cameron.
