i mean holy shit, this being the craziest most insane movie ive watched recently is really saying something, i thought i built up my tolerance to disturbing films but apparently not, i found a lot of scenes really repulsive, im not ready for irreversible just yet, needless to say this film is fucking amazing, i thought it was pretty good in the first half, nothing crazy i was just bobbing my head and vibing to the music and dancing, but then gaspar noe literally spikes his film with lsd and acid in the second half and what you get is 50 minutes of adrenaline, some of the most anxiety-inducing and gross scenes ive ever seen, my face was literally stuck in shock for like 6-7 minutes straight
this movie has one of the best soundtracks, sound designs, cinematography, visuals, and camerawork, i know i say that about a lot of films but this really elevated my standards, especially when it comes to camerawork, i know some people don’t like noe’s trippy camerawork but it really worked for me, this is why you watch movies with headphones because if i didn't my experience would be severely diminished, its just pure ear candy, aside from all the screaming, which there is A LOT of, it sounds so fucking good, and looks so good, especially in the second half, the first half is still great though, some of the BEST choreography ive seen in a movie, like yea i dont really watch that many dance films but holy shit it was what was keeping me interested in the first place
can we just talk about how every character is interesting and everybody had an amazing performance, you end up really feeling for some of the characters, even the shitty ones, but sofia boutella man, what a fucking performance from her, genuinely one of the best and craziest performances ive seen, theres like a 5 minute interval in the film, where she just goes fucking insane, probably the most memorable scene for me personally, and i dont even know how to describe it, flowers to her though, amazing performance
this film definitely is not for everybody, its lowkey an acquired taste, but i just think its so unique and i think more people should check it out, its definitely a really hard watch, probably one of the hardest watches ive had to sit through for a while, but the fucking ending man, one of the best shot and visually stunning endings ive ever seen, i really have no major complaints about this film, i wasn't in love with the first half, but i think on a rewatch ill get it, one of the best anti-substance films ive ever seen, no other film has ever made me feel like this and i love it, what an experience man
