Before Sunset
A movie just as beautifully exploring the concept of love as the previous one. This trilogy has the feeling of a vivid fever dream and the flow of the conversation between jesse and Céline is constantly evolving and intriguing. The dialogues in the car and on the ferry were so beautiful and I really loved and related to the scene were Céline spoke of her attachment to the strange idiosyncrasies of previous lovers. Jesses abject misery in his new marriage and Celine’s absent relationship both offer an insight into the true difficulties of love but their conversations are so thought provoking. This was one of the few romance movies that linked our shared human nature to the concept of love and it did it so amazingly. I thought this was just as good as the first. I really love both characters and I think it’s just an amazingly written movie. I really liked how the characters tried to understand each other through their conversation. Whilst I do believe that no one will ever understand another person, the feeling of being somewhat understood is essential. The feeling that someone cares enough to at least try to understand you is captured and portrayed so well. Love is destructive and this idea is continued in the final movie accordingly.
