After Hours
beautiful encapsulation of the progression and eventual degradation of human intimacy, or at least that’s how this has now aged and reads into the 21st century. wow. there’s something about this movie that had me entranced. it felt so different from other scorsese films, where he tended to focus on the tangible, while here everything feels surreal. alike to paris, texas- or rather, something lynchian, if that’s not too bold to say. scorsese may be iconified-in some cases-as the director who makes mobster movies, but the reason he succeeds in this trope is because of his skill in capturing the longevity/anticipation of human consequence. you can’t really describe this movie. it’s one of those where it’s really an experience. i’m a little drunk and a little enamoured. but that’s how life is meant to be soaked in, at the pores of it all. just watch this movie. it’s great. i want to write essays about this film, but will never find the words to truly depict it. a picture truly is worth a thousand words. how often do you see a director so cleanly portray the complexity of the human condition through every facet imaginable? in a way that makes your sleep feel less like dreaming? i don’t fully understand it, and can’t truly know what to make of it. that’s probably why im so captivated. #thereslayerstothisshit
