The Irishman
This movie was like my first ever movie logged on my letterboxd account. I haven’t seen it in a while but how I’ve missed it. One of my favorites. It’s a different style than other mob movies we see from Marty, and other directors. It’s about Jimmy Hoffa and workers unions and a bunch of stuff that on paper can be really boring. But if you have some of the most talented filmmakers in history it can make for an emotional masterpiece. This is different than the other mafia movies because it doesn’t focus on the glamour rise and fall of a mobster, it focuses on more of how Frank felt and the relationships he had with these other important people. Frank was at an interesting point since he was just an associate for Russ and a good friend of Hoffa so he could play both sides. That being said, it makes for a fairly sad movie at times. Which is impressive when you think about it. Any movie that can make someone feel bad for a guy that’s literally a murderer, convicted felon, that’s quality filmmaking. And for them to do this in 2019, Marty Bob Pesci Pacino Harvey when they are all like 80. That’s fucking impressive. That’s talent and should be celebrated. It’s kinda just thinking like damn they still got it, even thought they’re getting older we don’t know how much more we’re going to see, they still really are the best. At least in my book. Also who let Silvio sing at Franks award ceremony? In all seriousness, this is one of my favorite movies, it’s beautiful, emotional, impactful. Just really one of the greatest things we have. Well done guys. Killers of Flower Moon tomorrow.
