Serial Experiments Lain
Since a couple weeks ago i went to the roppongi exhibit (1999年) and I don't really have time to sit for 2+hr movies in my trip, i decided i would give Lain ago. I figured, i have this on my watchlist, i enjoyed the exhibit... Let's Watch this instead. I mainly watched It in stations' waiting rooms or in my hotel room at night, and It took me a good 5days still. I really liked the aesthetic but the anime Is more dialetics and philosophy than plot. Still, you get the gist of It in the last episodes. I really empathized with Lain's character and i think that the underlying prophecy in the creator's ideas has materialized down the line. This, like Pulse, emphazised many early 00s' fears about the onset of the internet ( Wired Is such a Better and more eloquent name, though. We are connected to digital IV tubes and for many humans it's impossible to even fathom an age in which we didn't have such needles poking us constantly) which later fell on our species. Looking for medias that treat AI in this way, not just like a formless and distant Boogeyman, as It Is a VERY current nightmare. The implications are there but what we already are seeing Is scary in of itself. Lovecraftian scary, at that.
