Silence
This Is my First movie of hopefully an unhealthy amount for this year and i feel like i couldn't have chosen it better. This is probably the most intimate and one of the most mature products of who I believe to be the best current director. I am no way near to a compromise on religion and my pursuit of a meaning in life is still at its beginning, so I can't possibly have gotten every single message conveied by this solemn epic. But I was immersed in it completely and it left me with a sense of awe. I felt galvanized by this work of art. The characters are well rounded with no exceptions, all pieces of the most puzzling element of this movie, which is greatly symbolized by the conversations between the daimyo and his attachés and between Fereira and Rodrigues. Actually, their conversation is the cornerstone of this movie. Garfield plays the epitome of the torn but arrogant martyr that has to sacrifice his dearest possession, faith. He, who greatly despised Kichijiro for his weakness, akin to Judas' sins, has to commit the same "heinous" gesture. But, the main question of the movie is if that is actually heinous. This movie really could be seen as the best banner for atheism and the best banner for Christianity. And this makes it perfect and praise-worthy. An experience that will be burnt in the memory of the viewer with no doubt. And surely a oil well from which to extract barrels of fuel for personal meditation. As always, Scorsese and his collaborators manage to litwrally paint every single shot with accuracy and sublime skill. It is a crime to underlook such a breathing and suffering piece of art.
P.S: I direct all my prayers and best wishes to the Japanese people after the tragic earthquake of today. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
