Wild how this is basically the first Fincher film I've seen (I saw Mank years ago, and don't really remember it super well), and well....what a re-intro.
I was aware of this film's standing in film circles, and knew that I was in for a good film, but I genuinely can't believe what I just watched, my jaw was genuinely dropped during the last 20 or so minutes.
This film is so tightly plotted with every aspect given so much care and precision. The film never lets up in the tension and unbearable dread of what's to come. I knew something was coming in the last 20-30 minutes, but the film cleverly addresses my dread in the most horrific (but brilliant way).
I genuinely can't think of a single film I've watched since getting really into movies last year that has made me feel physically sick until this one. I'm sure everyone is aware of the 'Sloth' scene, but I was not expecting what happened to actually happen and I felt like I was going to throw up.
There comes a point in the 'box' scene that you realise what is about to happen, and you just can't believe it, and then it actually goes there and it just destroys you.
It is made better by amazing performances across the board, obviously Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman are amazing, but Kevin Spacey is absolutely sickening in this. You genuinely believe this is a man that committed these acts, and his explanation is so vivid that you almost understand his motives for what he does, which makes it all the more sickening.
Genuinely a phenomenal film, but my God, it was genuinely one of the most disturbing films I've ever seen.
