The Father
This is a very personal five star movie for me as my grandfather had dementia or something of the sort (I was young so I can’t remember exactly what), so I’m going to use this to tell his story. I don’t remember very early memories in my life but one of the core ones was when my granddad would fool around at the dinner table with me and my brother laughing while my grandmother seemed annoyed but couldn’t help but laugh. You always couldn’t help but laugh with him when he made jokes, it was part of his charm. He was blunt and demanding but so loving. He didn’t like it when me and my brother cried so sadly I didn’t cry when he passed but I can always remember the news. When he started forgetting things my grandmom thought it would be best to sell the house they had together more than 10 years and put him in a home. They loved each other so much and my grandmama never stopped loving him even after he was gone. Me and my brother only saw him about three times in the home but somehow he always ALWAYS remembered us. Even if he forgot my father which crushed me. He would draw in his nursing home, he was very artsy which surprised me. It was like something a child would make but honestly I thought they were beautiful forms of art. I remember when I heard he passed I didn’t cry and kind of just sat there. I barely remember his funeral somehow though, I only remember placing the dirt I was given on his grave. To this day I see him in butterflies when I ask for a sign something good is going to happen or just when he wants to let me know it’s all going to be okay. I don’t know why I associate him with butterflies, he never told me anything about butterflies and there’s no correlation but I always feel like he’s there when there’s a butterfly around and it’s enough for me. He had his flaws but our whole family knows he was a wonderful person to bless this earth. Rest In Peace Grandaddy/June Dudley Ottley. I know you look down on us everyday, and I hope you’re proud of what you accomplished in your family. You are a legend and forever immortalized in our hearts. We and especially I love you forever. And yes I’m crying when writing this 😭😭.
