Maniac
*"My mind, it... doesn't work right."
"No one's does."*This show is simply wonderful but also it's something else that is more important, it's relevant and gets everything right. Maniac is about connection and self-improvement but there's nothing supernatural about it if you think about it, it's a story about two damaged people who help each other to overcome their illnesses and trauma. Maniac is deficient and sometimes rough in its direction and editing but everything about it feels real, it's full of real human emotions. Emma Stone, Jonah Hill, Sonoya Mizuno, Justin Theroux and Sally Field give extremely emphatic and vivid performances, they get under your skin and make you feel everything they feel. I love that Cary Joji Fukunaga and Patrick Somerville said fuck to a very annoying trope and didn't make tandem of Annie and Owen romantic, they're friends, they lost people inthe lost world where ableism is practically everywhere, they just wanted to feel connection, they wanted to feel that a person truly understands them, they've been surviving in this world for so long they got to the point when they thought nothing can change for them, and when they thought so, they glanced at each other.
