Sans Soleil
Obviously demands multiple viewings. I think I probably picked up maybe 25% of what this is putting down. This is deceptively approachable due to the connection between the narration and the imagery but also the potential to ingest those tracks separately. It allows you to approach it in interesting ways. You could put this on to fall asleep and sometimes let the words float over your head while watching the images and other times close your eyes and listen to the narration. I'd almost go so far as to say that doing so is probably necessary to really getting all that you can out of this film.
In my first viewing I found that it acutely captures the unique perspective that international travel provides with regards to time and space, memory, mortality, empathy, ego, nostalgia... probably more stuff too. Coming off of a two week trip in Europe It made me feel the depth of the melancholy and wholeness that reflecting on an experience like that provides.
I'll obv be revisiting. Masterpiece.
