Amélie
"maybe she's just different"
boy oh boy now is this a movie. it follows such a simple premise but its whacky, humorous and meaningful nature is what makes this such a brilliant film. its obscure and weird and reminds me of the live action cat in the hat in the best way possible. its so detailed and thought out it makes you really wonder wtf french ppl are up to if not making brilliant movies and pastries. IT IS SO WHOLESOME. such a wholesome movie thats a real feel good without making it cheesy and and too light without any heart. if you're ever in a bad mood, or better yet, in a a good mood but want to be in an even good-er mood, watch this cute lil movie. ITS SO CUTE. according to studies itll make you live a little longer.
our main, amelie, is an angel on earth who finds meaning in her life after realising the beauty there is to helping people through the little things. she doesn't do it for anything in return, but just because it makes her feel good too. shes an introverted person that typically keeps to herself and her timidity makes her unassuming which can wrongfully be confused with weakness. to me she represents simplicity who goes out into the complex world and makes amends with it by making it a little more simpler, makes peoples lives a little easier. she carries out the idea and hope of Diana - the people's princess - while similarly sharing a deep loneliness and detachment from others. we watch as she embarks on this journey to uncovering the secrets of the photobooth, and for once, is doing it for herself.
"If Amelie prefers to live in a dream, and remain an introverted, young woman. She has an absolute right to mess up her life !"
its message of belonging, doing the right thing and community is so sweet and kind to my heart. a lot of recent movies ive watched r low key heavy so this was a nice lil break.
man i think the thing i love most about this film is how specific the interests and disinterests are for each character when being introduced. it gives them so much more individuality and makes them real - it makes them human. its through those you can really understand the person more. love that. its so weird.
as i said before it reminds me so much of the cat in the hat. visually and character-lly(?). its just so weird. each character is in one way or another, a weirdo. some visual choices are weird. the cameras are so weird. ITS SO WEIRD I LOVE IT. IT ALL ADDS to this sorta feel that it is completely fictional, but so close to our reality. there's that edge i cant quite describe, but if you watch it you'll know what i mean. I LOVE THAT abt this movie, it doesn't follow the usual look of right, beautiful and practical, its creative and fun. it takes itself seriously without taking us out of the joy evoked. i absolutely adored the visuals and direction in this one. colours and light sources make this easily one of the decades prettiest lookin movies.
UGH OH MY GOD. WAIT. AM I TRIPPING OR WERE THOSE THREE BOYS AT THE TRAIN STATION A A REFERENCE TO LA HAINE ???? DUDE. THERES NO WAY THEYRE NOT. THE STREETWEAR, BALD ASS HEADS. PUT THEM IN BLACJ AND WHITE AND THAT IS SUCH A REF TO THEM. omg it blew my mind after learning the one that plays the lead in this film, DIRECTED LA HAINE. that has to be an easter egg, ill die on that hill. shoutout to the french
i liked the detail of the Toilette pointing to the dude in that one shot
i loved the music in this one. that one song they play in the first train station reminds me of Midnight, The Stars and You.
UGH i enjoyed this so much. easily rewatchable.
WEIRD. I LOVE WEIRD.
