Beautiful Boy
can’t think of a reason to not like this movie. i feel that every aspect which makes a film great, this movie does so well in. the writing, the dialogue, the casting / acting, the production, soundtrack, whatever. wow. steve carell. GOD. the message. kill me now genuinely.
the film follows a father yearning for the protection of his beloved son who’s become addicted to meth. we travel the memories of his beautiful boy, and the relentless persistence of a parents heart to protect the sanctity of those memories. in the movie there’s a moment while they surf, the father ( David ) swims through crashing waves to find his son who hed lost in the current, only to see him riding the wave with pride. and my god i cried at that because it beautifully encapsulates the whole meaning of this story. no matter how many times david is pushed underwater from the strong currents, he’ll always swim out to go and find his son - to save his son - to fight for his son. however the importance when combatting someone with addiction, is learning when to let go and learning sometimes you cannot save them if they don’t want it for themself.
incredibly moving as it was a great insight to the impact of addiction. you see the lives it affects and how it stems so much further than just the abuser, it can AND will tear relationships apart.
the acting was amazing. masterclass. fkn steve carelll i hate u and ur paternal dramatic serious acting you’re an awful man to make me cry like that. stick to comedy where i feel safe with you. tim , you deserve your accolades and don’t u worry dawg you will be ( and already are ) one of the greats.
on tiktok there was this rlly beautiful insight saying “films are so magical because for 2 and a half hours you get insight to another perspective in humanity. you’re fully immersed in learning a broader appreciation and respect for very real scenarios”. some shi like that. that was beautiful. that’s what this movie achieves so wel
i think i cried three times.
