You can really tell Dickersons love for the horror genre with this and when you put it in context with the slop that was coming out in the early 2000s with horror it’s really amazing that this film got made (though its weaknesses come from studio cuts). I think this film was incredibly ahead of its time, I’d love to see this get a directors cut one day so it can be the best that it can be, I think if Dickerson was able to completely execute his vision here it would be regarded as a very early entry into ‘elevated horror’ There’s also some amazing practical effects here that are very reminiscent of the work in Hellraiser
