Lady Bird
the monologue where lady bird begs marion to talk to her, berating herself for her mother’s benefit — her mother’s voice in her head, forever, like a worm eating away at her brain. selfish, bad, ungrateful. a piece of marion that will stay with her forever, no matter how far the little bird flaps her wings. she needs the physical record of her mother’s love that her father slips into her bags because she can’t find it inside herself.
every time i watch this movie i beg marion to leave that car and go inside, and she never does. a whole tragedy contained inside a freeway loop.
