Frances Ha
i spent most of this movie trying to "figure it out," but it was so much more enjoyable halfway through when I just sat and watched this frankly beautiful series of events.
something I noted is that it seemed to lack some of the emotional highs and lows of other movies- it is definitely still there- but more subdued, i guess.
I wanna watch this again to figure it out though. I enjoyed it but I couldn't really tell you too much about it. frances' struggles with career setbacks, feeling poor, and overall body issues are something I haven't experienced directly, so I think it might stick for me a bit more as I gather more life experience.
the score and the dialogue were my favorite parts. score was light and whimsical, which just let me sick back and live life with frances. dialogue overlapped in really cool ways too.
stylistically, this movie was great to watch, and I stopped guessing why it was in black and white because it works. some of the head-on or upper-angle framing was really refreshing. (thank you movie for being under an hour and a half.)
