Sinners
the religious imagery, the foreshadowing, and the parallels are phenomenal. i’ve never seen a film that merged both mythology and a historically accurate setting efficiently in a way that you don’t need to be handed information to understand the complexity of what you’re watching. the fact that the vampires are forever stuck in the violent part of the day, in the time where their lives came to an end, while sammie continued on the rest of his life reminiscing the hours before the sun went down that exact same day, reads as a metaphor of the ephemerality of peace for people of color back in the jim crow south. would absolutely watch again, especially for michael b. jordan’s performance of two brothers that each have their own promise for one another kept in the end. (hm: i adore the significance of color association throughout the film, especially sammie to yellow + the utilization of white)
