Amadeus
It was interesting to rewatch keeping in mind that the film is through the perspective of Salieri. I think that this adds more meaning to the dramatization of Mozart character and the framing of his death as an act of god. Speaking of, the man vs god element of the story is what I found myself most drawn to on second watch. The importance of hard work is a very fundamental virtue, which is why the idea that sometimes that is not enough is so haunting. Despite devoting his life to music, Salieri is just aren’t good enough, and that is the real tragedy of the film. To attempt to overcome this is futile, like a war against God. The depth of its messaging and tragedy, combined with engaging cinematography and historically fantastic sound design makes for a thoroughly excellent movie.
