✮✮✮✮✮ (LCA) "Lights, Camera, Action!" (or as I abbreviate them, LCA) are for films that transcend the screen and become part of my own story. I'm not looking for objective technical perfection; I'm looking for cinema that moves me deeply, that resonates with my own obsessions, and that alters my perception of reality. These are works I can return to, and they are part of my heart.
✮✮✮✮✮ (NOT LCA) I also give this rating to films I personally consider perfect, whether they be classics or the groundbreaking avant-garde works that have shaped the history of cinema. Perhaps they aren't the films I revisit out of emotional connection or that resonate with my deepest obsessions, but their greatness is undeniable.
✮✮✮✮✮ (SHORT FILMS) These short films demonstrate that great cinema doesn't need feature films to be monumental. They reward the economy of storytelling and surgical precision that, in just a few minutes, achieve a perfect poetic, visual, or conceptual synthesis. Some of these short films are part of the LCA.
✮✮✮✮✮ (LIMITED SERIES) Some productions that defy the limits of the television format and operate, in reality, as monumental feature films, where the small screen surrenders to a purely cinematic ambition, stories like this one or Scenes from a Marriage take advantage of every hour to delve into the psychology of the characters, dilate time, and build magnetic and complex atmospheres.
✮✮✮✮✮ (ANIME) Before becoming a cinephile, I was an anime fan, and some works left an indelible mark on my cinephile identity. Currently, I only rated a few anime series, but they are animated masterpieces that can achieve things that film cannot. I must mention my fondness for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, of which I only rated the Steel Ball Run entry (my favorite part of the entire series, even though it only has one episode). Anime shaped the way I see and create art.
✮✮✮✮ (GREAT) This includes works with impeccable direction, powerful visual aesthetics, or masterful pacing, but which don't quite reach a 5/5 rating because they may lack that final touch of absolute transgression or that total emotional connection. Nevertheless, they are incredibly rich, memorable cinematic pieces that are wholeheartedly recommended.
✮✮✮ (GOOD) The fair score for those films that may have great individual moments, such as a superb performance, a visually powerful scene, or a captivating pace, but which as a whole don't take too many risks or try to break the mold. Enjoyable and well-executed cinema that deserves recognition, ideal for passing the time even if it doesn't leave a deep impression or inspire a lasting obsession. Nevertheless, I sometimes recommend these kinds of films.
✮✮ (MID) For mediocre films that fall short of everything they attempt. They don't quite reach the level of total disaster, but they founder in the comfort of formula, cliché, or an alarming lack of visual and narrative ambition. Sometimes the direction is flat, the ideas superficial, and the experience becomes so predictable it drives you away from the screen. Lukewarm cinema that passes by without leaving a trace, leaving only the feeling of wasted potential and a time that will never return.
✮ (INSULT TO ART AND LIFE ITSELF) Cinematic disasters, these are films that not only fail in their technical or narrative execution, but completely lack soul, coherence, or purpose. They are lazy, or downright clumsy works that underestimate the viewer, delivering an unbearable experience that generates active aversion. A cinema that fails in every aspect, offering nothing visually, undermining its own illusion, and feeling like a total waste of time.
