Chaotic in every way but I’m here for it. Literally the polar opposite of La La Land. The ending completely subverts the messages taken from Whiplash and La La Land. They don’t choose career over their life. Well, I mean some do and don’t turn out too well. I came into it with low expectations since everyone says that it’s “Chazelle’s worst film” but I came out astonished. The ending definitely picked it up to a four and a half since I’m kind of a sucker to omages of cinema. That opening 30 minutes has to be one of the best directed scenes in all of cinema. Feel like Damian’s films all tackle the same subject of obsession where they start to drift away from loved ones or family in pursuit for their dream. This film displays why I and so many people love cinema.
