Alien: Romulus
Most hyped I've been for a film in a while and I was not disappointed!
For me, Romulus manages to craft the perfect mix of familiarity to the older films whilst also ensuring that it's still different enough and is able to try its own ideas.
Everything is just really really well done, Fedé really knows how to craft a horror. The scares although not really shocking to me are all really well done and the practical effects are spot on, making it a pleasure to watch. The cast also did a great job, especially Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson whose relationship is the true driving force of the film, David's ability to swap his demeanor is a real highlight for me; and Caliees performance really resembled Sigoury Weavers iconic performance all those years ago. (Nearly 50 years now 😳)
Although it does copy a lot from Alien, it brings the franchise back to its simple roots. The callbacks are sometimes pushed in your face and are quite off-putting at times but apart from that the film is a thrilling watch for the full runtime, and I would happily watch more sequels.
