JFK
A 3.5 hour masterpiece about the murder of a president, but leaves you realising that the murder itself is only the surface. It succeeds instead in casting doubt over the legitimacy of big government, demonstrating how standing up for change caused institutional betrayal. Also, how the machine of war, a calculated drive for profit at the expense of human life, was maintained by any means necessary. Overall, a comprehensive and compelling indictment of an untouchable establishment.
Anyway, I’m not sure I can even do it justice but it’s literally sensational viewing and one of the most captivating films I’ve ever set my eyes on. The acting is pathetically good, Donald Sutherland has one of the best cameos I’ve ever seen, talks for 15 minutes straight and I don’t think I blinked once. Kevin Costner and the rest of the cast are a joke, and his courtroom dialogue got me a little emotional, leaving me in an existential crisis by the end.
