Columbus
I’ve always been one to scoff when someone would say “This isn’t a film. This is poetry [or other pretentious description]”. But this? This deserves every single bit of praise that comes to it. It’s poetry. I think this may be the most visually beautiful film I’ve ever seen. I... need some time to process this. But it’s beauty is not relegated to its visuals, as most films like this are. The beauty is found through conversation and a platonic love, and a reminder of the human soul that sits in every one of us. Columbus came at just the right time for me, and I’ll never forget my experience with this. Cho, Richardson, and Kogonada, take a bow. I want to rewatch this before I make any bold claims, but this may be one of my favorite films, no qualifiers needed. I just need to sit with this.
