Alien: Covenant
ALIEN: Covenant isn’t perfect, but it’s honestly a film that’s just as captivating and entertaining as it is thought provoking and philosophical. I feel as if Ridley Scott found a perfect balance between the original two films (and what made them so great), as well as continuing the story and themes that Prometheus brought up.
I personally adore where Scott chose to take this franchise, and Covenant is a beautifully shot film that visually pleases the eye all while maintaining an intriguing, mysterious narrative with interesting characters that work better as a team than individually. Sure, they’re all interesting, but when you put all of these characters together in an unfamiliar environment, then you’re in for a ride.
Having two characters with different thoughts being portrayed by the same actor could be confusing, but Fassbender does it with such carefulness and grace, that it’s seamless. Walter and David are both incredible characters that have a unique and suspenseful dynamic when you put them together. David is even more menacing and thrilling as an antagonist and overall character just as he was in the previous film, and Walter is written to be just as interesting.
The mixture and overall blend between horror and action is PERFECT, and when you write in these interesting characters and continue certain themes from the previous film, you have an ALIEN film for a modern age, but still maintains perfect continuity with the previous generations’ installments.
ALIEN: Covenant is awesome, and is one science-fiction film that inspires me. I really enjoyed it on the first watch, but I almost enjoyed it more on the rewatch, this film is horrifying just as it is thrilling, and further proves that in space...no one can hear you scream. 8.5/10
