Aquaman
The first time I watched Aquaman was at an advanced screening. I had a pretty bad headache while watching it, and although there were some moments that I enjoyed and it had a lot of elements I liked-I ultimately just didn’t like the film, which was extremely disappointing because I love DC so much.
I hadn’t given it a second watch until today when my friend Cooper and I spontaneously ended up watching it again...and HOLY HELL was I wrong about this film. Aquaman is so much more than your traditional comic book movie-it’s a rousing adventure, a fantasy epic with effects that remain stellar from start to finish, a science-fiction experience, and most importantly: a total blast from start to finish. It’s clear that so much passion and effort was put into this by everyone involved.
A lot of my issues that I initially had on my first watch back in 2018 really weren’t present this time around, and although it still has some issues, it’s so much to take in that although it can be almost overbearing...it’s just so epic that I didn’t even care. Even the few moments that are less serious and come across as sorta dumb are so much fun and caused me to have a stupid grin on my face to the point where I just didn’t even care. This film knows what it is and totally rolls with it, and in return has everything and more that you could want from an Aquaman based movie. It’s so pulpy and fun but balances out the seriousness so well. I’m so glad that I rewatched this with my fellow DC friend and also 10/10 totally recommend watching this when you don’t have a headache.
Trust me, it makes it so much better. This film is so epic and I’m smiling just typing this review. It’s so rare that a film changes so drastically in my mind but here we are...and I couldn’t be more happy about this. I genuinely did not expect this to happen but WOW.
