Enemy
Jake Gyllenhaal is my favorite actor of all time. The fact that he can play two completely different roles in the same film, and do it masterfully, is just insane. He and Denis Villeneuve are a perfect cinematic combo, and this movie only made me more hyped to see Prisoners. My only concern is that the film was WAYYY overly sexual and not important to the plot enough that it was needed. That was honestly the reason it’s not rated any higher.
Admittedly, I was really confused by the spider imagery at first. But after watching an explanation of the symbolism, I was able to understand that is symbolized the fear of losing control, which makes the whole movie feel even deeper. That ending caught me totally off guard. I’m still a little confused by the final frame, but it’s the kind of "mindf**k" that actually makes me want to go back for a rewatch just to fully grasp everything I missed the first time.
