“So this is how you get into hell?”The collective moral and ethical decline of final stage capitalism. Loving the unapologetically visceral exploration from some of our greatest filmmakers at their late age regarding sociopolitical issues like PTA with OBAA and Kurosawa with this film and with how they both intergate this “dark” humour into both of their respective films. The tonal display here especially in the second half of the film is absolutely amazing, wasn’t expecting it tbh. Another incredible experiment from Kurosawa that formalaic speaking while keeping and (imo) elevating some of the aspects that make Kurosawa one of my favorite filmmakers being his visual language, the way that he just gets under your skin with a simple camera move and his detached, emotionless portrayal of character violence that like his previous works, leaves us with a raw and introspective study of humanity and evil. Loved this film wanna watch it again already! Incredible final scene and final shot.
