I think i might’ve watched enough cult horror movies for this whole movie to feel a little tame and predictable. I think it will grow on me with a rewatch. First PTA film to prepare for One Battle After Another! Thought this was great, and then found out he was only 27 when he directed it which is actually insane. I’d be hard pressed to find a movie that has so such identity and life. Everything from the color to the sound to the costumes fit seamlessly together. The cast is unreal too. Only minor critiques are that it seemed to intentionally shy away from discussions about race & some of the gender dynamics of the porn industry in the 1970s. Very possible that these were present, just a little more subtle. However, i think they are important enough conversations to not require subtly. Also, contrary to most watchers, it definitely felt like a 2.5 hour movie. I have now seen every Nolan movie, and of course I ended with the least-Nolany movie in his filmography. Above average crime drama, no big practical effects or twists and turns. Very little reading between the lines.
